Fall is here

Fall is here. The leaves have begun to change colors and there is a certain crispness in the air that I can’t help but love; even if it does mean saying goodbye to the warmth of summer. With the fall settling in and the winter looming, comfort foods abound and I welcome them with relish. The smell that fills the kitchen when you’ve been cooking something low and slow is only bettered by the feeling of accomplishment when you can finally sit down to enjoy your meal. One of my favorite things about my job is the aromas that infuse the air throughout my day; a reflection of the pride we take in our work.


Things at Meritage have certainly been busy. With the seasons of soup upon us, our development team has been simmering away and we are excited about our new offerings. Customer feedback is always very important to us and the requests for Vegan varieties has resulted in the conversion of two popular soups, Farmer’s Market Vegetable and Spicy Tomato Lentil, to our Vegan line. Our new Vegetarian Chili with roasted Anaheim chiles, hearty cooked beans and Southwest seasonings is a perfect match for the cool weather and it’s Vegan to boot!


In our new French Mushroom Bisque, three types of mushrooms are combined in a rich chicken velouté enhanced with roasted garlic, sweet cream and a touch of sherry with truly decadent results. Or try the classic union of diced lean beef and heritage grains along with hearty winter vegetables in a tomato-laced beef broth; our Vegetable Beef will truly warm your soul.


So a toast to fall; I’m off to grab a spoon.
